The Constitution & Donald Trump
Donald Trump has been one of the most unique Commanders-in-Chief this country has ever had. He is the first U.S. President to have never had any previous government experience – either as an elected official or as a member of the military. This makes him a true outsider. To some, this is part of his appeal, as it means that he could bring a fresh perspective to American politics, without being weighed down by the baggage of the entrenched political establishment. To others, this makes him a danger, as it means that he could take actions and exercise powers not granted to him by the Constitution or by statute, since he does not have previous experience as a member of the military or the political establishment to train him and teach him what he can and cannot do as President.
As a result, Josh discusses the legality – or lack thereof – of various recent actions that President Trump has taken, not based on whether these actions make good policy but based on whether these actions are legal (or Constitutional) in the first place.
